Community Outreach
 

We go EVERYWHERE in our community to spread awareness about First Robotics to help establish new FLL and FTC teams, support current FLL and FTC teams, and MOTIVATE local school students to join robotics at a young age.  

 

We ACHIEVED OUR goal of reaching out to over 300 people to encourage participation in robotics.  We established 3 new FLL teams and plan to start more robotics teams in the future.  

While working hard to alter the course of many young lives WE LEARNED communication skills, project planning, task management, effective teaching skills, and organization skills.

Social Media

Our team is active on several social media platforms like YouTube and Twitter. In February 2022, we created a video on “How to Avoid Rookie Mistakes” to help new teams avoid the mistakes that we made.  The video has over 100 views. We also post our matches from our tournaments for other teams to look at.  We also feature a website where we display programming snippets and items to assist other teams

Elementary and Middle School Outreach (setting up new teams)

In our school district, there are 3 elementary schools, two of which had a pre-existing FLL team (5 teams).  Due to our efforts in 2022-23, another Elementary School has FLL teams (3 teams) - a total of 8 FLL teams between the 3 schools.  We visited the 3rd elementary school in our school district and communicated with the principal and PTA and are working with them to support and mentor these FLL teams. We visited all 2 of the schools and supported them by giving them advice and answering their questions. We also helped mentor 4 FLL garage and helped them with their presentation and gave them advice. Additionally we met with a group of students in Austin, Texas who were planning to start their own FTC Team and needed some guidance. We met with them online and showed them our robot, explained the rules, and answered their questions.

Visited Vayu Robotics

We visited Vayu robotics  which is a company that specializes in the field of Robots for Delivering food and packages. We met with the founder, Mahesh Krishnamurthy at his office. He told us all about his company, the products they made, and their future designs. We told him about our robot and its functions. We learnt, to our surprise, that Vayu robots had similar functions and designs as our robot. Vayu’s robots also had a TeleOp mode and an Auton Mode. They also used odometry and telemetry to determine localization and distance travelled. One of the best career insights shared by Mahesh was that his best engineers are the ones who have gone through the FLL Robotics programs, FTC and FRC while growing up.

Presentation at Saratoga Elementary School

We went to Saratoga Elementary School presented about FTC at their school assembly. We talked about the robots, the game, the competition and encouraged them to join robotics. We even gave them a live demo of our robot. Overall it was a very fun experience and we plan to do more of these in the future

Community Outreach 

We want to spread interest in FTC robotics among the local community and reach out to parents and students in the community to motivate them to create community-based FLL and/or FTC teams.  We achieved this by visiting our local farmer's market and public library where we showcased our robot to encourage people to join robotics. We plan to continue this and encourage parents to establish new community-based FLL and FTC teams.
